Pilfering

So I know this is not the place to post bugs, thing is I don't know if this is a bug. I'm just now playing Ark Nova and my opponent played Japanese Macaque, which has Pilfering 2 effect, take 5 money or a random card from the both the player with the most conservation points or highest appeal. I was pilfered twice, it's that I am only ahead in reputation and not conservation points, we both had two points, so I didn't have the most. Any ideas?

If there's a tie, they get to choose from the tied players, so since you were tied for the lead in conservation, they were allowed to choose you.

Doesn't pilfering 2 mean exactly that he is supposed to be doing that action twice?

I would like to note that Pilfering checks conservation points and appeal, not reputation.

Yes absolutely, but if you read what I actually wrote, the issue is that the card says the player with the most conservation points but they and I were tied so I didn't have the most points.

Might be remembering wrong, but the rulebook also mentions that in case of ties, the player who played the card decides the tie.

Pilfering 2 with *zero* conservation points

It is true, that in case of a tie, you can choose a player and you can never choose yourself. But I honestly thought, you could use pilfering and constriction also against all players that do not have cp yet, meaning: No player moved ahead in conservation, all are at zero, so they are all "ahead" in the track. But when I tried to exploit this recently with the japanese macaque, the game would not let me use the cp pilfering. Not sure, if that's a bug, I did not find anything in the rule book. You could also interpret the all at zero situation as nobody is ahead.

Or probably another case of quarantine lab ? Hard to say without more info / a screenshot

No, cant be quarantine lab, because I got a card from the attraction track. I was confused, since it worked with constriction recently iirc and hence expected to get two cards from opp (or the other options, but opp didn't have enough money to pay). I will add a screenshot when I am on my computer next time.
