Is it possible to get rid of begging tokens once you have accumulated them?

No. You can mitigate them by scoring higher or furnishing Writing Chamber (negates up to 7 penalty points).

Unless you're intentionally taking beggars to gain an edge on subsequent rounds, it's likely not the most optimal play.

I usually take 1-3 in the early game to set up a growth, big sowing action or establish 2-3 valuable breeding pairs that'll gain me more points in the long run than the 3-9 points I lost early on.
