Don't I need to approve a game for it to start?

I swear that there used to be some sort of a screen where you had to confirm if you want a game to start. Instead, I was placed in one and wasn't notified that it even started until I went back to BGA, loaded into the game table and was met with a message that I was removed from the game. It didn't hurt my Karma for some reason (thank god) but now there's a marking on my account that I quit a game...

There's no such screen in Arena mode, and it was an Arena game.

There is actually such a screen although it may be a bug. Just seen it recently. Have seen it countless times throughout my time here. There are some threads about it as well.

The screen shows but it auto-accept in Arena mode so you might not see it

I understand that arena games always auto-approve, but I don't understand how it works for non-arena games. Sometimes I create a table and I need to hit "Start Now" when all players join. Other times it auto-starts.

I got hit with this again and lost 20 karma... well, that'll take a long time to build back up

There has been times when I had to wait an extended period of time for the other person to accept, times when I had to accept, and times when the game didn't start because someone declined an arena game. This is never supposed to happen correct?

As mentioned above, when playing Arena (which you were for the most recent game in which you were expelled) it
should auto-start if there isn't a glitch and you do not get a chance to decline. The reason is that if you had the option to decline you would get to see your opponent and choose whether or not to play them, which is against the spirit of Arena (I know there are ways around this, but that's not the topic of this thread). Yes, Arena
could be implemented such that the players were anonymous until the game was accepted, but that's not the current implementation. So for now we have to be diligent about monitoring games we're waiting on or leaving the queue if we aren't going to be around to monitor it.

I think op is joining arena on accident and doesn't realize it but this is what I was referring to. I have been asking about this for a long time and never got an answer.

I join arena intentionally and click on a different tab until someone's found (I don't know why it takes so long to find someone, Ticket To Ride is afaik the third most popular BGA game).
When someone's found and I'm on the confirmation screen, the tab title changes to spinning triangles as a way to say "I need attention" and I usually notice that, but when it loads in immediately, these triangles don't display and boom, -20 karma.
