I had a situation this morning where a 3-player (fast-mode) game of Ark Nova went waaaay too long. Player 3 exceeded the limit twice and I was very patient but then I was forced to eject them after another long, long overrun turn and I then quit the game(I had to leave IRL). I came back 4 hours later to see the table messages where player 3 and the other player were discussing reputation-bombing me. Is this actionable? I didn't do anything outside approved BGA policies & game play.

I'm usually very patient, but my last 5 3-player games of Ark Nova lasted 72, 77, 62, 75 and 69 minutes. This one ended at 100 with a LOT of play left.

If they wrote anything reportable in the chat, report them (don't answer them).

Otherwise, what you're asking is: "Can humans behave like humans?"

They would only have grounds to give you private red thumbs in this situation, so it just means you'll never play with them again.

And it's probably better that the very patient and the somewhat less patient play with like-minded people, so everyone has a less frustrating time.

(Not criticising you at all, as I am somewhat impatient in tournaments too.)

Actually they can give a public red thumb as well (unless they run out of red thumbs). They cannot report if there was no misbehaviour.

Oh, I thought you can only give a public red thumb if you report someone, but I never tried. So you are not restricted to that?

The reasons you can give for a public red thumb are:
1) This player insults others or says inappropriate things in the chat
2) This player plays too slowly or frequently disconnects
3) This player quits or abandons the game on purpose
4) This player is Kingmaking / engaging in team play
5) This player should be avoided for another reason

1) and 4) are clearly reportable behavior. 3) is marginal, because how can you know for sure it's on purpose? 2) is not something that should be reported, at least not frequent disconnections. 5) is just a miscellaneous category.

After you give a public red thumb, you get a message that says: "Thanks. If you think this player violated our Terms of Service (e.g., by verbal aggression or insults), you should also Report this player to the moderators." So they are two different things and you don't have to do one to do the other.

Since none of us can review the conversation between your opponents, I thought it may be helpful for you to see the penalty grid that is used by the moderators. https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Moderationpolicy Section 1.4 shows the consequences for behaviors.

If their conversation warrants moderation based on the grid, then it is worth reporting. If it doesn't, you're probably better off just using the red-thumb and moving on.

Sorry this happened to you. I've had similar experiences and I know it feels awful.

I suppose this is a semi branch from the "why on line gamers are so impatient?" thread. I'm a premium member, I started the game with "fast" play settings. I'm not usually impatient, but when a game is in danger of running 2X longer than average, it becomes a problem.
