Discard should be visible

the rules vid I watched said we should be able to look through our discard, I think is quite a key rule missing from this implementation as it is often relevant to look and sort of grok what play might be best / when a risk is worth it

The rules vid I watched said you can't look through the discards, only the top card is visible.

The English rules say: "nobody can browse through the discard piles (including their own); only the top card is public knowledge."

Yep, explicitelt forbidden by the rulebook and was confirmed by publisher during the development.
Nothing missing from the IRL game here.

It's always possible ( but difficult ) to remember the played cards if you have a good memory. If you have 2 stress cards and 2 cards remaining in your deck, it can be usefull ...

I play R/L with a guy who always knows whats in his deck, even with active conversation going on. If he's cheating, he's VERY good at it.

it's quite impressive.

When playing stress cards, they almost always cover the top of your discard pile, even if the cards you flipped afterwards comes later. I'm not sure if this is a bug.

As per the rules, discard pile cannot be looked through. Only the top card is visible.

However, as I explained in the linked suggestion, many games on BGA are played turn-based and this changes things.
And BGA has logs and "replay from" which also change things.

It is common on BGA to make accommodations to the rules because of turn-based play.
The reasoning, as I see it, is two-fold :
- what can reasonably be remembered at the table when you see what is happening over 2 hours or so and you physically do many of those things, cannot be reasonably remembered when playing a game over a week or a month (and where you didn't move the pieces physically).
- As you can use the log and "replay from " and notes to bypass the memory requirement, keeping the information hidden can be seen as an annoyance and possibly as unfair as some players would use those possibilities while others would not.

Tons of games are showing information normally hidden at the table as an option or even by default:
- automobiles (cubes in bag)
- Tigris and Euphrates (current points in each color which is very relevant)
- GWT (deck content)
- running score in many games
- ...

If need be, such an option as open discard piles could be made to work only in turn-based mode or it could have 3 values (yes, no, yes but only in turn-based made) so that we could have an arena mode where the option is only active for turn-based games.

-------------------------

As for remembering what remains in the deck, it's not that hard. You just have to remember how many standard 1/2/3/4 cards you have discarded since the last shuffle. Remembering the rest can be useful too but just those 4 counts is enough to know how risky your stress or boost is which is the most common reason to want to know what remains in the deck.

You can edit the title of the thread with (Resolved) in parenthesis, to relieve future views traffic.

I found many cases where it was obvious my opponents kept a record of what they discarded. The "notes" option should be unavailable for this game.
