Allow us to abandon early if a player is afk form the start

If on the first move of the game a player has not made a move for one minute, please give the remaining players an option to abandon early with no penalty for anyone.
Edit: I am suggesting that the option to abandon is available earlier during an afk player's first turn of the game, so the rest of the table only has to wait, say, half his turn timer before abandoning. In addition it would help if this special case was given a pop-up, maybe next to the This player is not playing, what can I do? message.

You just need to wait for that player to time-out. If they did, you can suggest to abandon and the timed-out-player will automatically accept.

The instructions for what Silene said are to open the hamburger menu in the upper right corner and click on "Proposed to abandon the game collectively." The absent player won't get a karma penalty and it will be as if the game never happened (except I believe a notation on the absent player's profile that they ran out of time).
Just to clarify, you do have to wait until that player has completely run out out time as Silene said and
everyone else must agree to abandon.

Note this option no longer exists for cooperative games

You can instead decide collectively to concede the game, but then all gets a karma penalty.
EDIt: not karma loss, just ELO loss

No, you don't get a karma penalty for collectively conceding. You only lose the game.

Hello Silene, I am aware that this is how it works now. I'm suggesting that the abandon option is available earlier on each player's first move of the game only.

What is the logic behind making the first move shorter? In many games the first move takes longer than the next ten moves (sometimes combined), as you need to analyze your hand, the field layout (if it's something random each game) and basically plan your whole strategy for the first half of the game. It's insane to make people to do all that in under a minute, but then allow them 3 minutes per moves where you already know the layout and need to think less.

The reasoning is that with the introduction of Arena Mode, many games start with one of the players not present, and as a result the rest have to wait for the entire turn timer + 20 seconds to expel him, which is a huge waste of time for everyone. This suggestion is not meant to force people to move faster on their first turn. If someone tries to use this to abandon when the player is present, the player can simply refuse the abandon.

How would BGA know if the person isn't present or just taking their time?

There's a pop-up when someone suggests an abandon, and anyone including the player whose turn it is can click 'no' to refuse the abandon. To make this suggestion work, the abandon has to go through, say, 20 seconds after the first person suggests the abandon. This 20 second grace period will give enough time for the current player to say no.
