Is there a wy to avoid being put in games with people who have a bad (say below 70%) reputation? It's very annoying to be halfway through a game and someone stops playing.

Yes. With automatic matching the follow filters are available:
Opponent's reputation
No filter - I'm okay playing with anyone.
Permissive - I would prefer to avoid players with a bad reputation (< 50☯).
Restrictive - I never want to play with players with a very bad reputation (< 50☯).
Very restrictive - I only want to play with players with a high reputation (75☯ and higher).
When set to automatic matching, click the gear icon under your ELO rating for that the game, then select "Show advanced options" at the bottom if you can't see the reputation filters. This is if you're starting from the "Play Now" lobby.
If you start a table manually there is an additional filter for 85☯ and higher. On manual tables you will find the filter by clicking the "Restrict table access" link.
