Hi. I played two game with my girlfriend and it was really nice. We will soon player the advanced mode, they seems cool too.

1) Do you plan to add the solo mode to bga ?

2) An other question : i haven't yet played to the advanced mode, but by reading the rules, doesn't the green and desert planet better than other planet type ? (since with forest you get 2 points per forest and with desert you can transform one tile each turn into desert).
edit : now i am thinking, since other also get point from forest, this means they have more chance to choose a forest tiles, hence giving you less forest tile making it more balanced ? But then the desert planet still seems better than other.

edit : just played an advanced game with my girlfriend and it's an even better game ! It's very nicely designed, you can have a simple game first to get the mechanics, then add the news rules which make the game more tricky and funnier !

Hello Mathieu,

Thanks for the compliments and for questions!
1) For the moment, we don't plan to add the solo mode. But if there is a lot of requests, who knows. :)
2) The asymmetry of the advanced mode brings a lot of theories. In fact, for the desert (expanding) as for the forest (bonus point), everyone can use the same powers. So, if your(s) opponent(s) let you do what you what whitout counter-drafting, it is indeed powerful. But if everyone pays attention, it can be far more subtle. For my part, I prefer to play with the mountain or ice planet to be less counter-drafted. :D

Hi Yoann,

I've been playing the board game for a couple of days.
I think Biomos is a simple but great game. However, I have some questions about the game's balance:

Don't you think the desert planet is easier to play with (as the desert is pretty easy to spread) compared to the volcano planet (as it is not possible to create mountains from other biomes)?

I could never defeat the black hole (even with 20 points) in solo mode. The automa easily achieves the 10-point challenges as it only needs the right number of biomes. For the 10-point cards with jokers (e.g., DxDxDxD), does it need to pick 4 desert biomes or 4 desert biomes + 3 others?

Thanks!

Hello cnarff,
Thank you! The desert power is indeed very strong if others do not counter-draft. You can quite easily see a desert strategy and counter it for example by exhausting the deserts and reducing the possibility of making a Desert moon. Many people on their first games have the impression that the desert planet or the forest planet is the strongest but in truth since everyone has the same powers, nothing prevents you from doing a desert or forest strategy with another planet. The difference in points due to the asymmetry is really small compared to the total points.

Stats-wise, I win the majority of my games and I generally play the Mountain or Ice planet depending on the draws in Advanced Mode because I prefer strategies that give more control at the end of the game (where it's easier to have a favorable Moon while retaining its power), but I already say too much here. :D

As to the solo mode, it is indeed really hard. I play it with a different mindset than the normal mode. For example I prefer letting him do small Biomes where the points/token ratio is bad for him to deny him the possibility of achieving big Biomes. For DxDxDxD, he only needs 4 Desert Terrais tokens, the Joker does not count for him. And you only draw new Basic Biomes after his turn, not after yours.

Hope that answer to your questions!

According to the box, the game is for ages 8+ and takes 20 minutes to play. The game home page here says it takes 8 minutes. Do you have to be 20+ years old to play?

Indeed, everything is upside-down in this world!
More seriously, the time indicated on the BGA page is an average on games played online where people play faster. :D

Is there a list of Biome cards available? Or is that the knowledge bonus you get by buying the box :D
