Can't get the interface to accept my clue

I'm using the laptop I use to do all my BGA gaming and it's working fine with other games today but I signed up for a couple games of Haiclue and can't get either one to submit a clue. I can click on one of the 15 candidate words for clues and it moves up and is surrounded by 4 plus signs but the plus signs are dead when I try to click on them. And the blue box up at the top for SUBMIT CLUE is dead too.
I tried loading the Haiclue games on an ancient PC in another part of the house that still runs on Windows 10 (and that i occasionally use to make moves on BGA) and can't get clues submitted there either. Meanwhile my opponent has successfully submitted clues in both games.
What do I need to do?
