I keeping proposing "fast" "turn based" games and I keeping getting players from half-way around the world. Their sleeping when I want to play and vise versa. What am I doing wrong? How do I limit my search to players that are able to play when I am able to play? Thanks

You don't, because the system doesn't know when people will be awake. The problem is other people join games (manually or automatically) without checking that they can actually play during the play hours. Your only option is to play as intended and when/if the other players run out of time, expel them. Maybe that way they'll eventually learn.

I don't use the automatic option to join turn-based games, but I just checked the available automatic match settings and I can't find a way to specify playing hour preferences for fast turn-based games. Is the default setting for fast-turn based games "I'm ok playing with," because if so this is just asking for trouble given that turn-based tables don't have a confirmation screen for automatic matching.

Part of the issue is the site doesn't really explain "playing hours" well. I'd guess a lot of people don't realize time ONLY runs down during playing hours. I don't think that info is given anywhere on mobile and on desktop you only see it for a split second if you hover over a player's hourglass outside of playing hours.

While it's true that it isn't explained, what else could "playing hours" mean if your clock still ran outside those hours?

It would just mean "I prefer to play during this time and/or if you want the game to finish quicker, play during this time." But if people don't really mind a game taking longer, and if they assume their clock runs the same in that time as it does out of it, why bother honoring it?
