Board Game Arena

Are games on BGA synchronous (i.e. you play the game in one sitting) or asynchronous (i.e. you can take a turn, leave the site, your opponent takes their turn, you can take you next turn tomorrow)?

I've been looking for a nice asynchronous website to play some games with friends since we've all moved away, and I'm hoping BGA is it!

No, BGA is only for realtime playing.

I have a question for you however: why realtime playing is not suitable for you? I have ideas about this but I would be interested to hear your opinion about this.

Now that my group of friends and I have graduated college, we're finding it hard to arrange times to play games. Work, family, time zones, etc. all work against us. An asynchronous format would help us work around that.

I prefer play in real time, asynchronous games are like yucata, it's a little bored.

If I want to play a match for "Race of the Galaxy" I want to end today, not in... 2 weeks .

I'm glad that works for you, but for my group it's hard to get more than 2 people involved in anything synchronous. Too much hassle trying to find overlapping time in our schedules. Also note, these aren't mutually exclusive. I checked out BGA a bit and it seems to do synchronous games really well. Kudos there I'm just proposing another option for how to host games.

But for an asynchronous game, it'd be easy to get people on board with the idea. Log in, take a turn, and do it whenever you have time. Leave a snide remark for the guy you just owned.

I don't know if you are still around to see this, or if you will get notified, but something you should look into is Vassal. Lets you play games essentially via email. I have only ever played Eclipse with it however there are many game packs available if you are looking for a synchronous play.
