It's my fault but...

I killed my own karma.
3 times I played my last move, thanked my opponent and got distracted by something else.
In this 3 cases I actually still had to pass a round or some such. My clock ran out, my opponent kicked me.
Fair enough.
Here's a request to all players:
If your opponent has played through to the end of the game only to time out, why not move to turn based? Cost to you is essentially nil, but has potential to spread goodwill[l.
Anyway if you see me climbing about with super low karma, it's not from red thumbs!

Maybe some don't realise it's an option? To be honest, while I take your point, I'd be a bit annoyed with my opponent for not sticking through, and a bit "can't be bothered" about moving to turn-based for basically one move. I actually find saying gg before a game has actually finished a bit strange and personally don't like it. But that's just me, and it obviously doesn't hurt me that people do it. It does feel a bit like they have already checked out - like walking away from a table while someone is still playing their move, because who cares what their move is, the game is over anyway, right? Not saying that's necessarily your reasons for doing so.
In any case, red thumbs don't drop your karma anymore anyway, so it's only bootings or moderation that affect your rep these days anyway.

They may have even done this very thing! But when you click to convert to turn based, it pings the other players to accept or reject the suggestion. If you are not there to take your final confirmation button or action on their turn... you are also not there to accept the invitation to make it a turn based game. They can keep waiting on you. Or they can kick you so that an already done game can release them into the wild again. They are probably anxious to walk away from the game or start another. More than just middle of game even.

Proposing a switch to turn-based pings all players *who are not out of time* for their agreement. Timed out players auto-accept the proposal.

If your opponent is out of time and you make an invitation to change to turn-based, it is accepted automatically, similarily as for abandon. (I mean in a game with 2 players. Otherwise, other players in time can accept or reject.) In my experience, turning a real-time game into turn-based because the opponent is out of time sometimes allows to finish the game till the end later; but sometimes also the player just does not play, does not say anything, and will go out of time again 2 days after so that seems to just report the problem.

A player playing until the end then just stopping looks a lot like malicious stalling, in which case you don't want to give those players more time. Just kick them and be happy to hit their reputation, if it's a 1 of mistake it won't matter much, but if they keep doing it the effect stacks up. That's one of the reasons reputation is there. If someone keeps timing out of games from this, that's something they need to fix.

Good to know. I play so little real time that I have never encountered that. Sorry for speaking from ignorance.

Depending on the game it can be that they knew they didn't have any turns left but forgot that they might have to take an action on someone else's turn.

I was actually winning most of those 2 player games!
Yes, I'm aware of malicious stalling, though I haven't encountered it much. It's usually because of dropped wifi when it's near the end, and several people have thanked me for not kicking them.

If I have reason to believe someone isn't maliciously stalling, such as BGA itself having issues, or they're clearly winning (or even a close call either way) and leaving now would not make any sense, then I'd probably give them more time to come back. I personally hate turn-based format, so I don't know if I'd be willing to go so far as to change it to that setting, but I could see why players that don't have an issue with that format would want to change it in those cases. If they were losing on the other hand, I'm not likely giving much benefit of the doubt.
