Give up on Yahtzee

Post by MaiTri75 »

Why do people give up the game when they know they cannot win? To me it seems unpolite and unsportive..

Because some players want to play the game. If the game is over, they want to move on. Maybe they'll play another game or try something else.

Because I value my time, if I can't win I accept that and concede.

I don't mind concedes UNLESS it's on the very last turn/roll and I might like to see what score I achieve, but for the concede. Then it bugs me (a little). So, if you're going to concede please do so before the last turn/rolls - otherwise you could perhaps wait another 20-30 seconds? ESPECIALLY if the person you're conceding to might be on for a really high score, perhaps having triple yahtzeed already in the game!

Do you realise how astronomical the odds are of getting 3 Yahtzees in a real game of Yahztee!!! It's hugely unlikely.

About 1/10k (4.6% each turn).
Though it would be lower.

So really you're whinging about a high score that is the result of ridiculous game rigging or skewed RNG in the first place. It's pretty unimportant in life.
Over 10 MILLION games of yahtzee have been played on BGA so of course there will be many many occurrences of triple yahtzees within that

I've seen perhaps 2 or 3 times in my 1,200 or so games of yahtzee on BGA

But how many real life games of yahtzee have I ever played? Certainly not 1,200. Probably less than 100.

So no wonder I didn't see it as much in real life.

The RNG is fine.

I got a triple Y one time here on BGA. Just the once. If the other play had conceded after I'd got the second Y would I have been unhappy? Games only take 8-10 minutes. https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=403539438

Chances of getting ONE Yahtzee are about 4.7%. You should see one on average every 21 turns.

A game of Yahtzee is just 13 turns in length.

So really you should only see a Yahtzee about once every other game.

To get 3 Yahtzees in ONE game is clearly HIGHLY unlikely.

Let's take 15 turns and 4.7%, assuming you always goes for one: ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... ZEvqI/edit )
- 49% to have no Yahtzee
- 36% to have 1 Yathzee
- 12% to have 2
- 2.7% to have 3
- 0.39% to have 4
- 0.043% to have 5
- 0.0035% to have 6

So we are at 1 game out of 37.
If you want the probability for any player divide that per 2 (1/19).

I'm unsure of the effect of having the numbers XXXYZ or XXYZW and deciding to not goes for a Yahtzee, and not scoring a Yathzee, and would have gotten a Yathzee if you tried to.
