Ask opinion: kicking active player / got kicked out at last round

I recently encountered a (winning) player that kicked me out while I'm still actively playing.

Yes, I understand that players have the option to kick someone out when they run out of time. But personally, I would not kick someone if: (1) they are still actively playing, (2) got a lot of cards, which obviously need time to sort things out, (3) first time the player running out of time.

It was the last round.
This player was leading with 9pts (due to longest road + largest army)
I was at 2nd place with 7+1pts. At my round, I just built 2 road (and can build 2 more or maybe get development card), and was about to add a settlement when my time running out. Don't think I can win the game, but I was trying to see what I can do.

What infuriates me is that we had another player that ran out of time multiple times, in the early game. Yet nobody did anything. We waited patiently. Then suddenly I got kicked out. At last round.

I've never run out time before and this is my first time since I joined a couple weeks ago. So I'm a little puzzled.
What do you guys think?

He has played less than 400 games on BGA. Bad sportsmanship is bad. Especially when you decide to kick a player in the lead AND he is actively making moves. This is just toxic and acting like this enforces more people to be toxic, not only about the timer but other issues as well.

I have to agree with you. Not because I'm being salty or anything, but I just can't condone expelling an active player who run out of time for the first time and obviously has a lot of cards/plays in hand.

In my case, the one who expelled me was leading, I'm in 2nd place. And of course right after the person expelled me, he/she/they won that game. Have I mentioned that it was the last round?

But anyway, lesson learned.
And I still refuse to expell anybody that's actively playing, unless the person shows bad behavior and constantly being overly out of time
