Ban Main Account, Not Just The Alt

Some cheaters use an established main account to ELO boost a newer account. Recently one such alt account was identified and banned. However, the main account remains active, creating no disincentive to repeating the behavior. They obviously don't care much about the alt, but their main account is precious. Perhaps behind the scenes the user was warned that further infractions would result in the main account being banned?

I appreciate very much that at least *something* was done. It is demoralizing to people who play fair to see these cheaters operate with impunity. But banning their main account would *really* send a message that BGA takes it seriously.

What exactly is an "alt" account? I suppose someone who plays with several accounts at the same time, maintaining/boosting one "main" account via these other accounts? Am I correct?

That's one way to do it. The other is to do the opposite and have a main account and create newer alts that the main account loses to. It is the "main" because it has 1000s of games played, and the alt has only dozens to hundreds with a high percentage of those against the main.
