Why did I have to discard?

In my current game:

on my move yesterday 12/27 at 1:33 PM (US CST or 19:33 UCT), I had to discard a card when I had just 4 in my hand. But I have the university that lets you keep up to 5!?

What am I missing?

I guess it has to wait until the game ends to get the full replay. Did you use the card action? The action could require you to discard one card after drawing cards

I don't think so, but the game log is rather short for some reason, so I can't tell either.

If you are speaking of the required discard after a cards action, this is normal. The 5 card university doesn’t stop you from following through on a cards action. So with your current cards action, which is on the blue non-upgraded side, you will discard when cards is on 1, 3, or 5 strength and your university will not protect you from this part of the action.

The 5 card university only keeps you from discarding cards at break. If you have 5 cards at break, you can keep them all if you have that university.
