41 conservation points limit

Hello,

I just wanted to share with you a rule that I was unaware of after 100 games of Ark Nova in BGA: you cannot score more than 41 conservation points (and I assume maximum 113 appeal). I suppose your scoring marker cannot get out of the board, which makes sense but since the scoring tracks are not fully displayed in BGA (unless you click on them of course), this limitation is not obvious. Also, I did not see any mention to this maximum of conservation or appeal in the rule book. It is not a bug, as the game log mentioned "cannot get more than 41 conservation points".

It occurred in table ##462828220 (https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=462828220)

It was a quite unusual game. I scored a ton of conservation points through projects (including 2 worth 5 points, and 3 animal releases with migration bonus). I also got all the conservation points you possibly can from zoo (workers, universities, partner zoos) and reputation track. In addition to that, I made at least 4 donations, and was supposed to get 6 additional conservations points with my end game objectives (I played an elephant), not taking into account the sponsor cards. I was expecting to win when the end game scoring started, but then to my surprise the conservation counter stopped at 41 and I lost the game for 3 points. Had I knew this, I would have played differently as I could get nearly the same final score without releasing an animal on my last turn.

Not a big deal, but I was wondering if you were aware of this rule, and if you had ever reached the end of one of the scoring tracks yourself.

it's explained in the FAQ if i'm not mistaking. Along some odd cases.

It never happened during any of my game though

I've maxed out the conservation points track twice, but both times it just reduced my winning margin rather than changing the overall result.

Interesting, there was a post on BGG about this and I could have sworn someone official said there was no limit.

The closest I found was the designer commenting on a thread about someone hitting 113 appeal with an "interesting zoo" and then a thematic explanation of why you couldn't have more appeal. https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/277428 ... 9#39031419
In any case, the official FAQ has the line "No, you cannot gain more than 113 Appeal or 41 conversation points."

Just wanted to reply that I also found out about this (on the appeal side of things). Crazy game with both players dancing around 99 points at the end led to ridiculous scores: https://boardgamearena.com/7/arknova?table=474123430#.
