I am currently in the first month of a personal challenge to play 500 Different Board Games in 2024. So far I have reached 50 (looong way to go) and enjoying the challenge. I mostly play fairly popular games here so I might not be the greatest partner on your journey. I've discovered Challengers! on BGA which is easy and a lot of fun. Didn't see it in your games played on here so I strongly suggest it if you've never played

It's funny how some have the challenge to play less, and others make it a challenge to actually play MORE games.

I'd say this is a bit of both. 500 games are a lot of different games, though by splitting up your attention I'd say it also has the effect of reducing how much you actually play. Game quantity/quality is easier to achieve when you specialize.
