Ties in a tournament

Hi all, I wanted to explain something that happened to me in a tournament yesterday. Maybe i'm in the wrong but it seems a tricky situation that i find a bit unfair.

The problem is that a player and me tied, but the other one won because they solved it faster. That is completely ok of course, the issue is I played my turn as soon as the game started, i tried my verifiers and then wanted to try a solution. I could not put my solution until the other player completed their turn so i waited. The other player took a little bit longer so i went to sleep and in that time the other player did the same i did and was able to try their code as I already was in that step of the game. I took more time than them to put my solution because i was sleeping so it seems i took longer to finish the game but i didn't. I got to the solution step much much sooner.

I dont know if there is a way to try to solve this kind of issue.

I'd been wondering how ties in a knock-out tournament would be handled, as I'm currently in one and it seems likely there will be ties in the later stages.

This does not seem like a good resolution. I'll have to be careful to avoid tournaments of this with a knock-out component in future.

I read somewhere else that the tie-breaker in elimination-tournaments on BGA is just random. And so far I couldn't see any pattern either, so it seems you just have to get lucky if you tie. :)

From what I've seen so far in Touring Machine tournaments, the first couple of places usually just come down to who gets lucky with the random tie-breaker. Not that great, but I also don't really see a better solution.

Oh! I had no idea about that. I though it was a matter of time. Thanks for the clarification :D

I was wondering about this and I can confirm that it is not time related but random.
