How does Bonus Dice points work at the end of the game

Can someone explain how the bonus dice award works at the end of the game? I see no instructions on this on who gets it and how many points

You get to score the bonus die if you are staking a claim on it when the game ends.
If you end the game with the bonus die, it is rolled and the result is how many points you get.
In other words, if you end the game with the bonus die, you’ll get 1 to 6 points at random added to your score.
