About those statistics that are being tracked and compared:
Since the players can have different numbers of turns a lot of the stats might be improved by converting into percentages or "per turn" values.
Thinkin' time, turns in first place, xth gear, turns with adrenaline.

Is it correct that to get this changed I have to use the bug report page to make a suggestion?

Would others be interested in having this changed?

Are there additional stats that could be interesting, while we're at it? Track, times blocked, highest speed, nr of upgrade cards used, ...?

I don't play championships (yet) so I don't know how it works with that but I talked about it in a suggestion a long time ago back when the game was in alpha I think.
