ELO exchange in multi opponent games

There is an unfortunate situation without a great solution but, perhaps, a decent one.
I was in a four-player game of Wingspan and was leading going into the last player's last turn. I'm not certain I would have won, but one of the other players would have had to have a lot of points from bonus cards to catch me and, judging by their board, it was not likely they did. That said, I'm not certain of this.
Here's the game: *
The last player went over time and one of the other players quickly booted them, causing a three-way tie for first. As I was, by a good measure, the highest-rated player among the 3 that tied, I actually lost ELO.
A few things:
1) I do believe that in a tied game played to completion, a higher ELO player should lose points in many situations.
2) I recognize that there must be an ELO exchange in this situation because otherwise you'd be incentivizing players to abandon lost games
3) There's not really a solution that completely does away with someone who feels they have no chance of winning to take advantage of the chance to boot someone and, thus, get a tie for first in a game they were not going to win.
What CAN be done is simply not take ELO away from any of the "winning" players. It's not a big thing, but it seems only fair.
