***Got it, checked the rule book and missed a very important... pay the cost of the card from the associated market space market. I had 1 coin! Undone by being poor.***
Hi - can anyone explain why I was unable to play conservation on the final round.
I had 3 x workers in the pool
I had upgraded my Association card
There was a conservation (release predator) in the card row, within reputation ranged
I had 3 x predators in my Zoo (2, 2, 3)
I had 4X markers to move the Assoc. card to space 5
Table #481575062
Move #549
Any help to understand for future games. In the end, i played a sponsor card just for something to do and end the game.

From the rule book page 16:
"If you select to perform conservation project work and
support a new Conservation Project card, you may play that card directly from the display. The card you play must be within your reputation range. As an additional cost, you must pay an amount of money equal to the number on the folder from which you play the Conservation Project card. Do not replenish the display until you have completed your turn."
You have the only 1 money and the number on the folder that is the release conservation project (predator) card is 3. Your money is not enough to do this action (You would have at least 3 money to do this).

They tried to make this more obvious with the symbiology in the expansion (everything but cards has a money icon on the upgraded side) and it still confuses every player I teach for multiple games that upgraded cards is free and the others you have to pay.

This may not help when teaching the game, but the way I always remember it is that you are paying the penalty for PLAYING directly from the display -- gaining efficiency.
Only the Cards II action doesn't PLAY cards from the display, so you don't get charged extra.

Heh. I was literally just thinking the same mnemonic in my head.
