Rejecting the starting card

As far as I know, you can reject the starting card, but I can’t figure out how to on BGA. My only options (playing on an iPad) are to click on “confirm” or click on the card, which adds it to your set.
Please help!

The rules do not state anything about rejecting the starting card:
"Draw one random card from the level 1 deck.
•
Lose equal to the card’s cost, shown in the top
left corner.
•
Place the card in its respective sector on your
board according to the number listed in the
upper right corner of the card. Take the card
currently in that sector, turn it upside down and
“deploy” it in the same sector (see “Deploying
Ships” on page 7)."

The rules do not state anything about rejecting the starting card:
Perhaps they are confusing the standard rules with the Light-Speed variant in which you could choose not to buy any cards at the beginning.

Thanks both - it would appear I’ve been lied to

I was taught the game in real life and, although I do own it, hadn’t read that part of the rules thoroughly!

Based on the many "bugs" reported with incorrect rules interpretations, I think that many people place this game incorrectly. That is the beauty of having a site like BGA enforce the rules for you!
