I've always seen comments about how the old play interface was better and how most of the options were missing from the new one, but I can't find the old one.

Where is it?

"Play Now" at the top of the screen.

It's just the "Play Now" button at the top. It gives more fine-tuned control over seeing tables for multiple games at once, and which options are active at them before you join.

You can also chat in the lobby of a game before it starts, I believe.

I click on "Play now!" and it brings me to the same interface, am I doing something wrong?

The "new" lobbies are the individual game pages. It didn't used to be possible to start a game from a game page. That's supposed to be the "better" option (the way forward if you will), though it's lacking in a lot that existed in the old lobby (which is the Play Now interface). If you've already been to the Play Now interface, you've seen the old lobby - that's all there is to it. It had it's issues (mainly slowness as the number of games you had in favourites increases), but tends to be more useful for those who may want to start/join/queue for multiple games.
