What is the purpose of bidding for the starting score?

I know how to adjust the score based on the strength of the race, such as 15 points for the demon race, but what is the auction? Everyone is 40 points, so reducing it increases the difficulty for oneself?

Some factions may score higher than others. So, players bid their points to get a better faction.

For example, if I want to play a race with strong abilities, I will bid and start with a lower score?

yes.
That's the general idea with the auction, to have a built-in leveling mechanism to make sure the game is fair.
