This is an awesome war game that brings back memories of many classic Avalon Hill games of my youth! I wish I still had my copy of the longest day and I wish even more that I could have experienced it in a computer moderated way like this game has done! Six months of playing in my basement every day for hours at a time every day after school! History like this strategic game examines is so richly meaningful!
What’s your favorite historical wargame of all time?

I think it was Unconditional Surrender!
It was because it was choosen for my first wargame implementation on BGA.
I love D-Day at Omaha Beach too for its solo challenge.
But like you see, I focus on WWII wargames because it is my prefered period of time (to play, not to live during).

Either Avalon hills Gettysburg or AH’s Midway. Both have a great historic flavor and provide deep insight into military actions of their respective periods. Both pushed me into historic miniature war games.
You?

One of the first AH games I played was
Anzio. This was the first edition but was still a delight with the interesting invasion possibilities and the intricate step-reduction system which gave the units lots of character. I always liked trying to invade at Rome or trying to throw the Allies back into the sea.
