Board Game Arena

Playing German Whist as a slow, turn-based. How does a player know whether they are playing to maximise or minimise tricks. So far as I can see there's nothing on screen; nothing in the BGA rule set. Paget makes no mention of minimising, and Wikipedia gives this only as a variation. Is this (only) in the tutorial?
It's frustrating to discover you've played an entire game trying to achieve the wrong target.
