BGA thinks moderation is a favour they do, not something we pay for

Just tried to report a player for cheating but apparently my opinion, as a paying subscriber, is not valued. In order to report a player I have to prove I am worthy by fulfilling a multiple choice form. My complaint - an Azul player waited until the last possible turn to confirm they had lost before timing me out (in a correspondence game where I was barely in the red) - is not covered by the options.

Now, I have no doubt that BGA will justify this by saying this isn't specifically against ToC, I shouldn't have been in the red, and so on. And all that is true. But this [moderated: language] didn't just cheat me, he also cheated the other player in the game who had _their_ time wasted. He also cheated all the other players who experienced consequences for their poor play in other games. This guy not only chose to dodge consequences for himself, but also made that decision for another player who had done nothing wrong.

This should be reportable. I shouldn't have to beg for attention for this. TBH I don't even care that much about one free account humiliating themselves by acting like[moderated: language] But I do care that BGA apparently find hearing reports about player behaviour so objectionable that they feel comfortable putting massive barriers up, threatening players, etc etc.

I want to be clear about one thing here: this isn't an open letter. I'm expressing this here because I cannot find any other route of communicating with the people I am paying to provide this service. I do not wish to be rude, but I'm not here to debate forum users. I am a paying customer and I'd like a response from BGA. I'd specifically like to know why I'm treated like an annoyance, constantly threatened with bans for daring to trouble your moderators, while free accounts game the system with impunity. What exactly are we paying you for?

I'm sorry, but moderation is not something you pay for. This is what pay for when you get premium: https://boardgamearena.com/premium?src=globalmenu There's no mention of moderation or preferential support.

I'm having a hard time parsing out what exactly happened that has you so upset - just that you're upset. And something about turn time, although whether it's you running over or your opponent, or both, is unclear. I don't understand the claim of an opponent timing you out. The only way that happens is your own inactivity - that you don't act within a set time after someone tries to turf you. As long as you continue playing and acting, you can't get turfed.

There's lots of things that people can do that are uncouth, unsporting, or otherwise rude that aren't actually against the rules. The Mods won't do anything about them, because that's not a Moderation issue, that's a player-base issue - that's something that we, collectively, have to figure out how to do something about.

If you're talking about someone stalling until you get fed up and leave, that's a two-fold problem - that you left is entirely on your shoulders. That he was doing something antagonistic would be on their shoulders. And the solution is easy: down-vote them, make it clear that it's a personal issue, and you'll never play them again (outside of a tournament setting or something like that). One game's problem is solved for the foreseeable future.

That you're a paid subscriber does not give you superior treatment by the Moderators. I'm a paid subscriber, too, and I expect Moderators to rule fairly, and according to the actual site rules.

If you don't understand things you can simply not post.

I also didn't mention preferential support. I simply want access to a functional moderation system that doesn't treat me as the problem. The fact that I'm a paying subscriber merely makes the lack of this worse.

Perhaps you should hold off on replying to posts you haven't understood.

Responsibility of communication is on the sender. If you're not understood, it's your problem to fix.

How about rephrasing the problem?

You clearly haven't even bothered to read the original post* so it's a bit rude asking me to explain it to you.

For clarity: not only do I not need you to understand, I do not care what you think or whether you agree. Please leave me alone.

You're on a public forum. If you don't like random people commenting, then don't post in a public forum. There are other avenues that you chose not to explore on the matter, clearly.

PEBKAC.

I highly recommend working on that enormous chip on your shoulder. It'll hurt you more than it can possibly hurt anyone else.
