I replayed the game and the player you are talking about (naming is against the forum rules, btw) probably wanted to steal from the player with 3 VP - but since that player had no cards the BGA implementation automatically stole from you. This can happen as an oversight.

Afterwards you stole twice from him when he had 2 VP and the 3rd player also stole once from you when you had 2 VP. I do not know why you pick out the one player you did.

You should know that if you want to play "friendly robber" that you have to choose a game where the game option is turned on. In this case the rules of "friendly robber" are enforced by the BGA implementation. If you play a game without "friendly robber" option then you should not wonder about situations like those described above. You may then choose to rob whomever you like - no need to complain in the forum.

So after the community successfully lobbied to make this an option so that there could no longer be disputes over negotiating to enforce this house rule, the rule was not turned on yet someone is still complaining about someone not abiding by it?

Yes, I've been playing Arena the last week or two, and my opponents frequently whine when I steal from them if they have 2 VP. And the majority of the time, if an opponent is the first to roll a 7 before anyone has 3 VP, that player moves the robber to an unoccupied hex, as if the Friendly Robber variant were active (with no prior discussion).

In fairness to OP, he indicates that his opponent agreed to abide by friendly robber and then breached that agreement. But it does seem very unwise to agree to a rule variant playing against strangers on BGA (especially now, as Meeplelowda points out, that you can simply join a game outside Arena with that rule variant implemented enforceably).

Even without Friendly Robber in effect, it's often a good play to deliberately play the Robber in a place that doesn't affect anyone, if you're the first person to trigger it. Why? Because a lot of people will remember the first time they get stolen from (and blocked) far more than they'll remember the rest of the times that the Robber gets used, and hold a grudge over it. Up to and including refusing to trade with that player for the rest of the game.

Let someone else take the heat from the first theft.

One option is to do what is done in some games like Regicide which is to add a 'banner' with the options of the game.

Without doing that, adding at least a description when the mouse is on the robber could be nice if it's not already done.

One extreme would be to change the color of the robber which i believe would be bad.

Not with the automatic lobby which is pretty popular at the moment.

It's a problem from bga not from the game itself.

Even if they read the options on the top right that mean they join the game, the game start, then they decline which is better but still causes others minor problems.

When I start tables (always without Friendly Robber, but with Easy Start) I post as soon as possible the following text into the chat box:

"The Friendly Robber option is NOT enabled here. If you only want to play with it, it's better to only play at tables where it's enabled. If BGA selects your opponents automatically, you can configure your settings so that you are only placed at tables where Friendly Robber is enabled. Good luck!”

And a little later this one:

"However, the "Easy Start" option prevents any robbing in the first two rounds. I like this better than the "Friendly Robber” option.”

People give me nevertheless the red thumb, which is why I see most of the time this ugly red text box when I log into my account:

"A significant proportion of players (more than 10%) report that they don't like playing with you. You should try to get more positive feedback."

The ugly part here is the second sentence. It basically means that BGA not only wants me to play by the rules, but even more so to play by other people's wishes. That's ugly!

I am stealing it! Yesterday I had one guy telling me that was not a setting but a practice that most of the player adopt
