Quitting and getting ELOs?

Why did someone leave the game and still get ELOs even though the people who remained didnt receive any? I don't think that's fair. Someone who quit after someone was kicked out for running out of time, but still got ELO even though the people played until the end got zero. They were online and couldve played, but chose to quit. Yet in the end, they went from 0 to 18. How is that fair to the people who stayed until the end?

Once someone leaves the game (expelled or quit), whatever happens after has absolutely no effect. You can play to the end (if possible) or quit, it won't change anything, the game is already spoiled.

You also got 8 ELO and the person who didn't had an ELO of over 400 (well above everyone else at the table). Even if the game had played out, even if the person with 400 ELO had won, they likely would still have got minimal ELO as they're expected to win.

You act like playing it out after the game was already over was a good thing. There's nothing special about it and it has no impact on the ratings. On the other hand, they had less rating than the other players (can't get lower than 0), and so got more rating for said win. That sounds pretty fair.

Sorry to derail this thread, but have they fixed the issue where highly rated people could actually lose Elo when someone quits? It looks like that is the case in the game in question. There is now a message in the top player's Elo calculation hover that says "You cannot lose ELO when a player quits the game", and the player indeed did not lose Elo.
