Ability to Resign!

In chess, you can always resign the game and take a loss. It doesn't seem like any of the games here allow that, but maybe they should?
That way if someone gets called away and must leave a game, at least they can lose and not make the other person wait for a timeout.

This is available, but not intuitive.
A player may choose to disconnect from a game. There are warnings all over the place about how doing so will affect your rating, and causes many players to never click that option. However, when one does, several options are presented:
Disconnect with penalty. The game may try to play on without you, nobody gets any ELO rating, and you get a big "this player disconnects" added to your profile and table information. This is what most people think is the only option.
However, there is also:
Concede the game. You lose. I'm not sure what happens in a game with more than 2 people, but in a 2 player game it ends, you lose, and the other player wins. ELO rating changes as if the game had played out, and no disconnect penalty is given.
Collectively abandon the game: Nobody wins or loses. However, all players must agree to it. ELO rating does not change, and no disconnect penalty is given.
There may be one or two other options, I don't remember for sure.

The problem with conceding is that you have to have finished about 60% of the game to concede. Also, it is not possible to concede in more than 2-player games. What Tjones is suggesting, I believe, is to have the ability to concede anytime you need.

It's a sad reality IMO that most 3+ player games are just not designed in a way that allows one player to "quit" without damaging the game experience for the others. This seems like a really hard problem in game design
I think it is wrong that you currently need to wait out some large fraction of the game before resigning in 2-player, though. There are some games where you can get into a hopeless position pretty quickly if things don't go your way at the start. And then sometimes, something happens IRL and you must leave, and you'd like to do something more polite than just disconnecting.

I suppose we could have another metric called something like "conceded games", and when it gets really high like, say, 40% or more then it becomes a problem?
This site does an incredible job discouraging bad behavior in several other ways by simply bringing it to light. Concessions could be no different, although I'd recommend a slightly higher tolerance, perhaps.

what's stopping them from doing it now? yes, it takes a little longer, but not by that much (if the opponent continuously passes or makes short but useless moves, i can probably get more than half of games on this site to 60% in a minute or two)

I know, but some are so lazy they do not want to wait for 50% xD
50% is good, if you will quit at early game, maybe you're a bad player or simply don't play
