Knight interrupts path right?

Hello, a knight from an opponent was placed in the middle of my route. To my surprise I still had the option to build a knight of my own at the end of the route. How can this be? This is a mistake in the game setup is it not? Have more players seen this?

You can place a knight at the end of any of your roads, as long as that particular intersection is not already taken. Interruption of the route doesn’t matter (except for counting the length of the route).

Does that mean I can still place villages on my road too?

Yes, you can build villages with the usual restrictions (space is vacant and not adjacent to another settlement or city).

As you saw, you can build a knight, but you should not be able to move a knight past an opponent's knight. You would first have to displace the opponent's knight using a stronger knight, or the Intrigue card from the blue Politics deck.

One additional remark to further clarify (not important in the discussed game, however):

If the opponent knight is *at the end* of one of your roads you cannot extend by building roads behind the knight.

It is exactly the same with settlements (also in the base game!):
*) If an opponent settlement is built *in the middle* of your road it interrupts longest road count but you can extend your road in both directions and you can build settlements on both sides.
*) If, however, the opponents settlement is built *at the end* of your road you cannot expand behind this settlement.
