If you're the first player to place a tree, a popular spot is the far right corner - because it can't be blocked on any of the first three turns.

However, if you're in a two player game with someone who's good at this game, they'll respond by placing their first tree (the second tree placed in the game) two spaces below yours, where it will block you on the fourth turn, if they grow it to a medium tree. You can't block them with your first tree because the sun from that direction shines on the first turn, before you have a chance to grow yours to medium.

This isn't a huge advantage, but it does give the other player some advantage over you. I've seen some people place somewhere else to counter this possibility, and I've experimented with it myself a bunch of times. But I'd like to hear what other people do.

Is there somewhere else you place your first tree when you're the first player? Where and why? What about in 3 player games?

You are right. This is standard beginning. usual response for this tur is putting your second three two spots next clockwise, so it opponent wants to block it, he will block his own tree

My typical first move (if I'm first player) is to place it one up and to the left of the right most corner. In two player, I tend to avoid corners if I can. This ensures I can get two to three trees growing on the 3-leaf spaces while also maintaining a Y formation. If it makes sense, I will place seeds on corners a bit later in the game, but never at the start.
