Default to Choose Wonder Side Instead of Random?

Not sure why the default game setting for wonder side is set to random instead of choose when the rules are for choosing side. I feel like a lot of games are set up as random simply because it is the default and that tends to take some of the strategy out of the game. What can be done to change the default to "choose" so that more games are played this way?

I think random is a bit more fair. It keeps Heli B out of the game more often.

I can certainly appreciate that, particularly at higher levels of play where luck can sometimes outweigh skill differences. That would also seem to imply that it's more important to force random sides in arena and tournaments than in regular games, yet arena/tournament games all are fixed to "choose," unless I'm mistaken.

I think it is beneficial in lower level games and mixed-skill games to have that additional element of strategy retained in the game. Also, it just makes sense to default to the official rules just like arena and tournaments. Setting regular games to default to "choose" wouldn't stop anyone from creating or requesting games set to "random" and if lower level players tend to (more so than higher level players) stick with the default of "choose," then I think those are the types of games where "choose" is most appropriate anyway since choosing the best side is part of the strategy and those choices are more varied at the lower levels. Just my opinion. I can see merits to both sides.

Tournaments are either random or choose depending upon what the tournament organiser sets.

I usually set choose but sometimes people use random

You know what other option would keep it out 100% of the time? Day-only. Which is exactly what the designer recommends beginners play from what I recall.
