Bonus Actions

Hi,

Have I missed something or does the BGA implementation not follow the bonus action rules as per the manual?

In the real world, bonus actions can be taken at anytime but the BGA rules only permit bonus actions after the main 2 actions.

I think either something is confusing you about the interface or you've encountered a bug. Bonus actions can definitely be taken before or in between your main actions on BGA.

Some possibilities if it's not a bug:

(1) You had no cards of the favored suit at the start of the turn. You played a card matching the favored suit last and the prompt for bonus actions then appeared.
(2) You had no cards of the favored suit at the start of the turn. You played a card changing the favored suit to a suit you had cards of, allowing you to take bonus actions.

Maybe you can check your game log to see if something like that happened.

It's also possible the prompt for actions is unclear unless you have only bonus actions left and that's leading to confusion. I don't remember the exact wording, so I'm not sure how likely that is as an explanation.

Thanks for your reply. I will try a few things in my current games and reply.

It helps if you can provide a link to the game & move number to check what is happening.

It could also be that it was just not possible to perform the actions. Ie, you have a bonus tax action, but there is nothing to tax. You do not have the rupees to pay for an action, etc..

I believe that the BGA implementation follows the rules as written, but what's confusing you might be this: the BGA implementation does not expressly refer to your action with the word "bonus", unless it's after the main two actions.

What I mean is this: suppose favoured suit is military (red). When I start my turn, the action line tells me I have two actions remaining. Suppose I buy a card from the market. Now it tells me I have one action remaining. Then I play a card action from a military card. The action line on the screen still tells me I have one action remaining. However, neither the game log nor anything else on screen expressly says that the card action I just took was a bonus action.

On the other hand, if I play two actions that are non-bonus, and I still have a favoured-suit card with available actions, then the action line specifically says, "you may take 1 bonus action" or something like that. Here it does use the word bonus.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I wrote this from memory (I don't have a game ongoing at the moment to doublecheck this).

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. I was wrong :-)

In a current game, I have a court comprising one political, two intelligence and one military cards. I used the build action on the political card and still had two actions remaining.

QED.

Best wishes,

Andrew.
