I've been expelled twice in 2 days when the game I was in showed me as being the inactive player and showed the other person as being active. Eventually, I ask the person (once their timer shows some negative number of seconds) if they are still there. That's when I get a message that I'm disconnected from the server. After that I have to completely close BGA and start in a new tab to get back in. That is when I see that I was the one expelled from the game. What is going on and can I please get my karma back? This is not my fault.

This happens from time to time. I have learned in real-time, if your opponent is idle for some time, it's worth refreshing to confirm your connection is reporting accurately. If there's been an issue with BGA during that time, penalties should be removed, but otherwise you're out of luck. It's very hard for BGA (or you for that matter) to determine where the issue was in your connection (and it could have been a problem on your end). While a connection problem on your end, even a very short one, is obviously different to deliberately going offline and not finishing a game, it's still considered your responsibility and you will receive a penalty. Fortunately, penalties are easy to reverse - just play and finish more games without going over time. Your karma is still realtively good and shouldn't prevent you from doing anything on the site while you regain it.
