How will a Carcassonne Tournament round end?

*** I thought I had just posted this but must have fumbled it.
We started the 3 player tournament with (I think) 5 days each which immediately ticked down to 4 days (and so many hours). It seems that while players are thinking about their move on their turn, their clock runs down, but it is not a turn timer.
So currently I am still showing 4 days, player 2 is showing 3 days and player 3 is showing 2 days.
What happens when a player's clock hits zero? I assume they take no further turns but does what they have scored at that time, plus any endgame scoring make their final score and the other two just keep playing?
Then when the second player's clock hits zero, does the game end(?) because it would be mad for the remaining player to just carry on playing on their own.
I am not sure how it is going to end.
