How does one move a day work?

I had assumed it meant each player is requires to make 1 move a day. Which clearly isnt the case. Id then next assume each player would have 24 hours to take a turn. But sometimes, even they arent a new player, they often have more than 24 hours to take a turn.

Doea this setting just simply add X time after taking every turn like a chess clock or something? I cant seem to figure out how it works.

Yes, it adds 24 hours for a player taking a turn. Additionally there's a time bank (3 days in a 1move/day game) that cannot be exceeded. So you can save some time for the weekend, but it is capped, so people cannot save up weeks of thinking time.

If you see players have more time left than the usually capped time-bank, then it's probably when they had used holiday-time-jokers (adds 4 days to your time, 4x per year allowed).

In some games there's some kind of reaction-actions that are not really a full turn and thus might not add the usual turn-time in real-time-tables. Not sure how those are handled in turn-based.
