question about the starting 'draw'

So my question comes down to, when you get a strong rare or unique in your hand that you cannot play for say 3-4 rounds, do you just discard it and eat that card for the game?

I am overall new to TCG's in general and I seem to be struggling with what cards to keep during the initial draw to start the game. There are situations where I get a very strong unique within the first 6 card draw. The unique has a 6 cost, and also requires say a landmark or additional characters on the board to set it up. I find myself never using the card when I keep him as I always end up to far behind by not having that additional card slot to actually play the first 3-4 rounds with.

Its only one card slot, but when your limited in mana and cards at the start of the game, I find myself being very boxed in and not able to play the game. (Am I answering my own question?).

For me it really depends on what other cards are in my opening hand. If there are 3 cards i can afford to discard, and two other early game cards, then I will keep the high cost bomb in my hand turn 1, hoping to draw into enough things that I can keep it. Sometimes I will eventually have to give up and put it into mana on a later turn.
