Arena game score

Does anyone know how exactly the arena games are scored? I ended up on 2nd place (no tie) and I lost almost double the points I won being the 1st. Similarly, if I end on 3rd place, I am losing almost 3 times the points I am winning being 1st. This does not make any sense to me.

See https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=faq_account_elo and https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=f ... hatiselite

In your latest 20 Catan games (https://boardgamearena.com/gamestats?player=93902962):
You finished 1st in 10, you won +11, +13, +9, +13, +12, +10, +15, +13, +14, +16
You finished 2nd in 3, you lost -10, -10, -6 points.
You finished 3rd in 2, you lost -17, -23,

In which game did you finish 2nd and lost "almost double" the points you won being 1st? Only -23 is "almost 3 times" +9, but you could also say that -17 is almost the same as +16.

Anyway: you win and lose based on your opponents score. If you lose against "easy" opponents, you'll lose more than if you win against them, they're supposed to be easy after all.

Overall you are correct. There is one you missed is the one where I was tied on 2nd place and got -18 (1st place +21), which is a lot for a 2nd place, even tied. Also the latest one that I lost 27 points being 3rd. So that's what I was talking about. I need to win 3 games out of 4 to advance!!!

However, the arena score is not good as it takes in consideration the ELO of the user that is gain in all the modes; plus it is unfair if you are randomly selected to play againt weeeker ELOs (not necessarily weeker players). So, either change the algorithm to randomly select opponents with similar enough ELOs, either create an ELO specific to that arena seson.

I did not miss it. I only included non-tied results, as you specifically said "no tie".

Yes, you lost against two lower-rated players. When you win against two similarly higher-ranked players you will win as much. If you only win against weak players, you will win little. It's hard to stay on top, you have to have a high win rate, especially against weaker players, which will be most...

No, it does not. The score only takes into account the Arena rating, which only depends on Arena games.

Thank you for confirming that only the arena ELO is considered. However, in this case, too much is depending on luck. It needs to match players with a similar enough ELO. And if it cannot, then the player's permission to be matched with anyone.
