I am a Californian. I do not wish to be affiliated with an enemy country. Please provide me/us with an option to select our bear flag.

So are you asking for:
1) The flags for all geographic subdivisions of every country in the world to be added;
2) Just the flags for the geographic subdivisions of the United States to be added;
3) Just the California flag to be added; or
4) Something else?

An "alternate flag" already exists. You can set "your country" to "unknown" (the top option) here: https://boardgamearena.com/preferences? ... ublicinfos

I'm not sure other places in the world are tied to regional flags, save Spain, like the state flags of that country you mentioned.
I am just one guy with one opinion. Having options would be nice for all that want them. Flags are political. Maybe a more simple language designation would be preferable?

I would prefer to remove all flags from showing on the game tables.

Or let everyone paint their own flag. But i guess then it's just another avatar picture... so somewhat redundant.

Personally I like the flags.
I like to know that I'm playing with people from around the world, and mostly in places I've never been. I often lookup some exotic locations. Occasionally it might help to be a talking point.
Maybe, hopefully from my end re-balance any negative stereotypes people may have of england/britain, although I can't be totally sure on that one :/
If players use that to make influences on game decisions, then more fool them.

I'm have tried this. But it somehow resets to Germany after I logout and re-login. Does this happen to anyone else?

You don't even have to leave North America to find other examples of regional flags, like the flags for the provinces in Canada.

There are regional or subdivision flags all over the world. E.g.:
