Station used but route not given

I placed Madrid-Dieppe using a station at Dieppe, yet it was not given as completed. Can anyone say why? I have tried uploading a screenshot of the final position, but that doesn't seem to work. How do I do that? Its a jpeg and less than 512 kb.

A station allows you to use a route built by another player. It does not create a route where none was built.

On how to post the position.
https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=595997518 The game table link
https://boardgamearena.com/archive/repl ... s=93357955; The replay clicked from your perspective in the previous game table link.

By adding &goto=94 to the end of the replay link you can post the replay from move 94. https://boardgamearena.com/archive/repl ... 5;&goto=94 The move you refer to is move 95, which also goes through scoring, so I placed it the turn before so you could hit play to move 1 forward into it.

To answer your gamestate issue.

https://cdn.1j1ju.com/medias/c0/4f/7d-t ... lebook.pdf Looking at page 6 of the Rulebook, under "Build a Train Station", I will bold the quoted rulebook text, underlining the key point.

A Train Station allows its owner to use one, and only one, of the routes belonging to another player, into (or out of) that city to help them connect the cities on their Destination Tickets.

As no routes from any player connected to Diepe, your train station does not help you connect destination tickets going there.

A station allows you to use a route built by another player. It does not create a route where none was built.
Furthermore, placing each station is -4 Victory points (because one gets +4 VPs for each unused station).

Thus you could have simply connected with a regular route to Dieppe (spending 2 green cards for +2VP instead of 1 card for a -4VP station in your last turn).

Not with 1 train card left. Given the "Not enough train cars left to claim the route." comment I'm guessing they attempted something to that effect.

Thank you for the information, and I thought a station couldn't be used if no one had built a route into it. However page 6 also says :

Stations may be built on any unoccupied city, even if it currently has no claimed routes into it

That is my confusion

Yeah, the station can be made even if it wouldn't do anything yet, likely with the expectation an opponent will fill into it anyways.

You are right. He had enough train cards (6 cards, three of them green) to claim the green 2-route. But he had only one train waggon in his supply. Only a pink train card could have possibly connected Dieppe.

I see how that could be confusing.

Stations only allow the use of an opponent's claimed route between two cities, i.e. they do not create routes where none exist. A station can be placed anywhere, i.e., any city, but you need someone to have placed a route down to that city, at some point during the game, to use their route from that city as your own. Otherwise, it is a wasted placement.

I hope that helps!
