Placing the ships can be tricky while using a mobile device because of the small screen size.
I suggest adding a button during board setup that will randomly place all ships that are not yet placed.

Totally agree that placing ships on a mobile device is an absolute nightmare - and then you have to refresh if you get it wrong and that square gets 'bricked' (shall we call it). I'm not sure random placing would fix this, but I wonder if drag-and-drop plus a rotation button would be better?
