Frustrating to learn?

Has anyone else found this game to be frustrating to learn? It just feels really tedious with so many tiny details. The tutorial stopped working a little ways in and I have run out of steam with the instruction booklet. Seems like it just goes around in circles. I generally don't have difficulty learning new games and am comfortable with complexity. Should I give up?

Hi icyswing, sorry to hear you’re having a frustrating time learning. Undergrove Is one of my favorite board games and I’d like to help you if I can because I think the game is absolutely worth learning!

Are you struggling just with learning how all the rules work and I had to play the game? Or are you looking for how to become really good at the game?

I actually felt the same! We just played today in person and it's not super complex once you are playing, but we really struggled to get started. Now I'm on here to hopefully play a couple more times to test it without the learning frustration.

Just played yesterday and felt the same. After family left, I watched a playthrough, then read through the rulebook. It all came together and I can't wait to play again!! Also, the rulebook has short paragraphs describing the symbiosis with the fungi and trees that really helps in making the actions make more sense. Don't give up!
