... that we're not actually playing by the rules.

According to the rules, all players - active and passive - need to collect their coins, rockets, cubes etc. BEFORE the active player buys a card. The active player therefore has the valuable information of knowing what the others chose to collect. In the BGA implementation the active player is blind.

I totally understand why the creators decided to go with this approach - it makes the game faster and more enjoyable. I certainly wouldn't change this. Still, it's kind of amusing to me that I've been playing this game for years this way without realizing that none of us are playing by the rules :)

A compromise is possible: Show each player's coins, rockets, etc. as soon as they collect them. Allow the active player to choose to wait and see what they're doing, but don't require them to wait.
