In a BGA tournament (with player time limits) if your opponent is playing very slowly - as slow as 1 turn per day - what would you do when they run out of time?

Would you force them out for being out of time or would you continue to play even after they have run out of time?

I haven't played in a lot of tournaments so I seek your opinion and your advice.

In tournaments you don't have to do anything if this happens. The game ends automatically once the total thinking time has expired (so your time, plus the time of your opponent). The victory is then given to the player who spent the least amount of time. The player that went overtime is also penalised in their reputation.

So it's annoying indeed, but you basically get an automatic victory.

In tournaments you don't have to do anything if this happens. The game ends automatically once the total thinking time has expired (so your time, plus the time of your opponent). Hmm, I've had 2 tournament games where this didn't automatically happen, though it could have been that my time hadn't expired.

So is it acceptable to expel an opponent who has run out of time - rather than wait?

A tournament game is always automatically ended when the total thinking time is up. So if it's 10 days, you each get 5 days of thinking time. After 6 days, the thinking time of your opponent could be used up, but the game only ends automatically after 10 total days.

If it is really clear that the game will not be finished, and your opponent does not have a realistic chance of winning the game, you could expel them.

Personally I wait for the time to be over, because then it's the system taking the action and not me. Avoids any kind of discussion about the discussion.
