Sometime in the past 1-3 days I lost more than 1,000XP.
Previously I had over 40,400xp, but now I have under 39,400xp.
I think something similar happened in 2024, but I hadn't paid close enough attention to be sure at that time.

I don't see any anouncements about XP changes. Can anyone help me understand how I lost XP?
I thought that XP was something that could only increase, but apparently that is not the case.

This happens to me regularly! It's so annoying, I'd really like to understand why.

Have you lost some top ranking, or is it unrelated?
Going from first to second should be a big drop in XP.

When you lose ranking you don't lose your trophies. The value of the achievements may change depending on when you get them, but I don't think that changes your XP, you still get the value it had when you got the trophy. I believe the only reasons to lose XP are when some trophies disappear (a game is removed or goes back to alpha, or its competitive features are disabled) or due to penalties (if you are found guilty of cheating, you may be stripped of the related trophies).

In my case, I wasn't able to tell where the loss of XP occured. It didn't appear that any trophies were removed.
It has now been a few months since it happened, but I don't recall any of the games being removed. At least none that I had 1,000 or more XP (not very many games for me).
I wonder if some specific trophies/achievements were made less valuable by XP?

If there was some penalty applied, would there be a notification of that?
I don't know about any penalties; that would be terrible to get a penalty and not even know it!
