Reputation system upgrade

Since the beginning of BGA, red/green thumbs allow you to tell the community that a particular player is respectful/disrespectful of the spirit of this website. This system is 100% subjective, but has a big advantage: you can use it when something wrong happens that is not explicitly forbidden by the website rules, but kills the spirit of this website (ex: poor loser, very unpleasant on the chat...).

To conclude, this is a very practical system, and when you look at your opponents red/green thumbs, you know more or less what to expect.

However, a very little number of players were misusing this system, by giving red thumbs to players for very personal reasons like "this player is too good for me". This is why we decided to change this system a little bit to make it more reliable:
  • As almost all players on BGA are respectful and polite, we consider there is no need to give more than 1 red thumb every 4 green thumbs given. So, we are now limiting the number of red thumbs to this ratio (which will increase in the future if needed).
  • If you don't want to play anymore with a specific player for a personal reason, we encourage you to use the new "write a personal comment" for this player. This comment is for your eyes only, and will allow you to remember why you don't want to play with this player any more without reporting him to the whole community.
  • Now you have to confirm before giving a red thumb, so we can remind you why red thumbs exist and how to use them properly.
  • When you play your first game of a new game, you can't receive any red thumb (beginner's protection).
By the way, we also "cleaned" inappropriate red thumbs: we removed red thumbs from players who were misusing the system by giving too many red thumbs in respect to green.

With these improvements, we'd like to make the BGA reputation system more reliable, and we hope this will contribute to help you to find respectful opponents for your games.

THANK you. I've been wanting the comment system for ages. I rarely use the red thumb, but I don't see those players often enough to remember WHY I gave them the thumb. Now I can just tell myself why I don't want to play with them, and can avoid the thumb system unless absolutely needed.

I'm understanding.

But is good if each people can see how many green/red thumbs had given (at least in private).

Great evolution! Less anxiety now when I crush an opponent :D
And it explains why half my red thumbs evaporated!

I have 1 red and don't know why. Is there a way to know why?

How does one appeal a red thumb? I entered a table to play while waiting for friends in a restaurant. My wi-fi connection got wonky and eventually I got disconnected from the game. Meanwhile my friends arrived before I can troubleshoot my connection. Naturally, I expected to get a red thumb from my opponent but what happened was beyond my control.

Agree totally w/ Icedpyre! Make his my words!

I gave much (much, much) less red thumbs than green, but usually I don´t remember the exact reason that I gave that red tumb. The personal note are much less "agressive" and much more effective. Thanks for that! Great advance!

I've given 10-15 green thumbs in the past few days, and still the system will not let me give a red thumb. Is this because I have too many red thumbs already from before the system went into effect? If so, how do I tell what my balance is? I can't remove red thumbs from people because I haven't played with them recently.

I am not arguing against the new system, but there seems to be a problem with the implementation.
