I dont know if im doing something incorrect here but I played the European Larch and I wasnt able to put down another mountain card, and i just played a Douglas Fir and didnt get another turn, is this bugged or am i doing something wrong.

Bonus effects only apply if you pay with cards of the right color. Have you tried that?

A card "effect" and a card "bonus" operate differently. See below.

And there is a notification at the top of the screen when you play a card that has a bonus that shows a green checkmark if the bonus condition is satisfied, and a red X if it is not.

I just had the same issue - played European larch, paid with an aplpine card, the bonus box was green, but still didn't get to play another card.

There's no card in clearing with the same symbol, and your opponent hasn't taken another turn, so whatever you used to pay for it should still be there. The cards you use to trigger the bonus must match the symbol in the upper right of the card with the bonus you want to trigger. Matching the alpine symbol does not trigger a bonus, and when this game is over and we can see the replay the bonus box will not be green.

The "tree suit" of the card you played - a European larch - is the purple European larch symbol (every tree card has its own symbol as its suit).

You say you paid with an alpine card, so that means the only alpine card in the clearing must be the one you paid with. That's the phoebus apollo butterfly / alpine newt card. Neither that butterfly nor the newt have the purple European larch tree suit. Butterfly's suit is the blue-green silver fir symbol. Newt's suit is the pink stone pine symbol. Neither of those match the card you played, so no bonus.

Yes, I stupidly mixed up the card type with the matching leaf symbol, my bad.

Oh! So the colour on the (very tiny!) symbol on the card you use to pay for playing a card has to match for you to get the bonus?
I didn't know that - I've been wondering why I rarely seem to get the bonuses too!
